Introduction
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 is one of the most popular running shoes on the market and for a good reason. It has been designed with both performance and comfort in mind, making it suitable for runners with an average build with overpronation. It is the ideal choice for everyone, from beginners taking their first steps to those training for marathons. This latest version, The Mizuno Wave Inspire 19, includes deep cushioning thanks to the innovative MIZUNO ENERZY foam that spans the entire midsole.
At a price point of £112, this feels like a shoe that will last for a lot of miles. It is very well built, which is why runners should feel good about paying for it.
A comparable shoe to the Wave Inspire 19 is the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22. Both are high-stack, stability shoes that are almost identical in weight and price.
Inspire 19 first impressions
Straight out of the box, the Wave Inspire 19 boasts a sleek design, with the engineered mesh upper providing a modern and breathable look. I immediately noticed the bright and bold colours. As I held the shoe in my hand, I noticed its weight, which seemed slightly heavier than expected. It was impossible not to miss the MIZUNO WAVE plate in the middle of the sole, but more on that later. Lace up the Wave Inspire 19 and you’ll immediately feel secure, with a tight fit around the top of your foot. I found that this extra security adds to the overall stability of the shoe, making it perfect for my overpronation.
During my initial 6-mile road run in the Mizuno Wave Inspire 19s, I noticed a stark contrast compared to my previous, softer shoe. At first, they felt firm and somewhat challenging, but after a few runs, the heaviness I mentioned earlier seemed to dissipate. It became evident that I was now experiencing the support of a more structured shoe, a noticeable departure from what I was accustomed to.
Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 engineered mesh upper
This shoe features a lightweight, breathable, engineered mesh upper that ensures maximum comfort during your runs. This material allows for excellent airflow, preventing heavy sweating and moisture buildup inside the shoe, keeping your feet dry and comfortable throughout your runs. The upper also has a more snug fit, holding your foot in place and reducing any unnecessary movement that can lead to discomfort and injury.
Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 sole unit
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 sole unit is designed to provide both cushioning and responsiveness, ensuring a smooth ride. The outsole features rubber material that offers an excellent grip on various surfaces, whether you’re pounding the pavement or tackling a trail. The sole unit also has a slightly curved shape that promotes a more natural gait and helps prevent overpronation.
Stability system
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 offers an outstanding level of stability, helping you maintain your balance and stride effortlessly throughout your runs. The stability system provides significant advantages for runners experiencing overpronation and achilles tendonitis, as it offers additional support to ensure optimal foot motion efficiency. The Wave Inspire 19 uses a combination of the MIZUNO ENERZY foam midsole and the MIZUNO WAVE plate to provide reliable cushioning and stability. Both these technologies work together to absorb and disperse impact forces, reducing pressure on your feet and joints.
Mizuno Enerzy Foam: propulsive, springy feel
The Wave Inspire 19 features the innovative MIZUNO ENERZY foam within the midsole, which provides a responsive, bouncy feel during every step. This foam’s propulsive properties make it one of the most comfortable materials on the market, giving you a springy and energised stride throughout your run. Notably, Mizuno increased its thickness by 2mm, ensuring your foot remains comfortable while providing a more propulsive, springy sensation with every step.
Mizuno Wave Plate: more stability
The shoe’s stability feature is further enhanced by the addition of the MIZUNO WAVE plate. This technology disperses impact forces throughout the shoe, reducing pressure on your feet and ensuring a more stable, smoother ride for extended periods of running. The wave plate also adds to the shoe’s overall durability, making it a reliable option for long-distance runs. The enhanced shape of the MIZUNO WAVE offers even better stability, with an anatomical plate shape that follows the shape of the foot.
Outsole
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 19 features an advanced outsole designed with X-10, a state-of-the-art carbon rubber known for its remarkable durability. This innovative technology ensures extended longevity in high-impact areas, reducing strain on your knees and joints. Consequently, your running experience becomes more comfortable, whilst gait efficiency is optimised for an overall enhanced performance. Furthermore, the outsole goes beyond mere durability. It guarantees exceptional grip and traction, instilling in you the confidence to push your limits repeatedly, knowing you have a solid and steadfast footing.
SmoothRide technology
SmoothRide technology, seamlessly integrated into the outsole, collaborates with the midsole to deliver a harmonious and natural rocking motion. Upon ground contact, the heel flex grooves of SmoothRide initiate a fluid back-to-front movement. Subsequently, the forefoot flex grooves and flex controllers work in tandem to sustain this seamless forward motion, resulting in an efficient and fluid stride. This empowers runners to unleash their potential and embark on an unparalleled running journey.
